GENETICS BREAKTHROUGHS OR FRANKENGENE AMBUSH?

Genetic innovation:
‘Nothing that we eat is natural’

By
Source

The elephant in the room. The human population grew slowly for thousands of years, but in recent centuries, it has jumped dramatically. Between 1900 and 2000, the increase in world population was three times greater than during the entire previous history of humanity giving an increment from 1.5 to 6.1 billion in just 100 years. How to feeding 10 billion people sustainably in the late 21st century? In just 30 to 40 years, about 600 quadrillion calories every single day is going to be required. This is twice as much as today. The mass of 7‐8 billion people will be squeezed in cities spending around 2800km3 of fresh water a year. That is more than the whole of irrigation farming is using, today. Every second 750 tons of topsoil is lost even today, giving a warning that present food production is unsustainable in the long term. Moreover, we have lost 24% of our land, already, and we keep on losing 1% a year. The UK’s Hadley Climate Centre projects that 40 per cent of the planet could be in regular drought by 2100. The hunger breeds war. If we failed to prevail what is coming, the consequences would affect every person on the planet.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. “The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not enough for every man’s greed” (cit. Mahatma Gandhi). The full intensification of agricultural production began in the middle of the previous century. The second half of the twentieth century was marked by the "green revolution", which significantly increased the yield of basic agricultural crops by a significant change in plant architecture. It was a project of great American foundations (Rockefeller, Ford) and governments of developing countries. The intensive agricultural production was based on new genotypes that were more distanced from their wild relatives, and highly dependent on human nursing. Though, the “Green agricultural revolution” has never solved "hunger problem in the world" as the proclaimed goal, the road of agricultural production was traced.
Trying harder or the border is reached. The genetic variability meant to carry out the yield regardless of costs seems to be exhausted. The trying in breeding for special purposes, like to prevail stress conditions and seize new areas for food production, or revive branched wheat could appear insufficient. Are we to find new genetic variability capable to speed up food production, which is inadequately slow, now, making more turns? Are we to go NASA way, and try to avoid climate changes and field stresses in closed production systems? Does the vertical gene transfer reach the border of its potentials? Is the horizontal gene transfer, we still know so little about, the path of salvation? While vertical gene transfer has its limits relying on reproductive mechanisms and chromosomal compatibility in creating novel genetic recombination, horizontal gene transfer bypasses all these obstacles recombining at nucleic acid level, directly. Anyway, in order to prevail, it seems that new “revolution” is required, not only in doing, but also in thinking. The elephant is in the room, and we cannot ignore it, trying to solve the problem rearranging old furniture. Dramatic challenges require resolute response. .

The world is in constant need of more food and new genetic engineering methods such as the CRISPR gene editing method offer a solution. However, these remain contested, EURACTIV Germany reports.

The banana looks very different to how it used to. Its original shape is actually small, thick, somewhat round and full of seeds. Its modern supermarket relative is, however, as most fruit and vegetables, the result of a human-led and goal-oriented plant breeding effort.

Already since the 1930s, genetic engineering has allowed for more efficient plant breeding possibilities. Yet genetic modification, even if not damaging to one’s health, is being debated from an ideological standpoint.

“It is a discussion with regards to the system. The big question is being addressed: what type of agricultural policies do we want for our future?” said Jon Falk, CEO of German plant breeding company Saaten-Union Biotec, during a conference on new methods of plant breeding organised by EURACTIV on Friday (22 March).

A categorical no to new techniques would be a waste of many new possibilities, as he said: “This is not black and white, we need a lot of grey in between.”

Falk’s laboratory represents middle-sized breeding companies in his sector, it is hoped that new genetic manipulation techniques will lead to higher yields of fruit and vegetable harvests.

This should help cover the rising global need for food. Yet, critics have doubts as genetically modified organisms (GMOs) could negatively impact the environment.

A recent judgement from the European Court of Justice in the case of “CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing” kick-started a debate in July 2018.

The technique is considered relatively simple and cost-efficient and allows for plants to be resistant to weather conditions, bacteria, certain fungus types and herbicides, and can be slightly healthier for people.

According to the Court of Justice’s judgment, the gene editing method must be labelled as genetic manipulation. Plants that are grown in this manner, therefore, cannot be sold throughout the EU without permission and the appropriate label.

For experts, the judgment was surprising. That is because genetic mutation through the CRISPR technique is no different than point mutations that occur naturally on a permanent basis.

“I consider the argument that the CRISPR method has the same effect as natural mutations to be muddying the debate. Two things are being mixed up deliberately”, said Harald Ebner, speaker for the German Green Party on genetic engineering and the bio-economy.

It is crucial that mankind needs to deliberate on appropriate technical possibilities as well as potential regulation and reparation mechanisms. A clear political line needs to be drawn.

Traditional plant breeding with chemistry and irradiation

Interestingly, genetically modified foods are not banned per se in the EU, but they still need to be vetted by the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) and given the green light by member states.

A list of foodstuffs generally permitted throughout the EU can be found on the EU Commission’s online journal. Numerous types of corn, rapeseed, cotton, soy and sugar beet are listed there.

Taken from strong EU laws on genetic engineering are plants that have mutated via mutagenesis.

With this method that has been applied for decades, seeds will mutate due to a chemical bath or nuclear irradiation and grow into the most appropriate and pure mutated seed.

These are the basis for a great number of today’s food. Without the mutagenesis, there would not be wheat to produce pasta, and even the yeast that produces our beer has grown in that manner.

“Nothing that we eat is natural. Nothing grows in a free and natural environment as these plants would not even survive there,” explained geneticist Sascha Laubinger from Oldenburg University during the conference.

Laubinger is convinced that from a scientific standpoint, the classification of the CRISPR method as genetic engineering is incomprehensible.

That is because it cannot be differentiated from naturally mutated plants and because traditional mutagenesis causes a greater number of mutations compared to mutations that occur due to the gene editing technique.

“And we eat those every day,” he added.

But the genetic editing technique cannot be applied just once, theoretically, the genome can be cut at 10 or 100 locations. Where the line should be drawn should be a matter of politics, according to Laubinger.

For him, a line should be drawn where species are being crossbred. For example, humans and potatoes need to be kept separate.

Who benefits from new genetic engineering methods?

To put a stop to this, Ebner, speaker for the Green Party, is pleading for a stronger limitation on CRISPR genetic editing.

“When genetic engineering is completely deregulated, it is possible that committed mistakes cannot be corrected at a later stage,” he warned.

Representatives of the seed industry such as Jon Falk are more open about this: “These new techniques are not a panacea, but they can be an important tool for a sustainable change of the agricultural industry.

“That is why we need an open and ideology-free discussion with regards to genetic manipulation,” he added.

Falk is also concerned that limiting CRISPR technology too much could slow down Europe’s research compared to international competition. “This technique has application possibilities that could go beyond genetic engineering,” he argued.

For other developments, there would be a lack of experience. Big companies such as Bayer that practice genetic research and hope for increased sales of their pesticides would benefit a great deal according to critics.

The president of the German Agricultural Society (DLG), Hubertus Paetow, sees this differently: “The mutagenesis is a relatively simple process that small companies can also apply. These technologies could even boost the majority of the corporate landscape.”

Whether genetically modified plants are actually easier to take care of and more environmentally friendly, as its proponents contend, cannot be explicitly confirmed.

A 2016 study commissioned by the US American National Academy of Sciences found that farmers are less prone to using insecticides when they grow genetically modified plants.

On the other hand, they are using more plant protection products, which mean weeds become immune to herbicides.

All experts agree on one issue: the debate regarding genetic manipulation needs to change because its bad reputation is not in line with the times considering the opportunities that it presents.

Historically, a great number of foodstuffs have been grown and modified. The greater the possibilities of genetic engineering become, the more a consensus on the matter is needed with regard to what belongs on one’s plate – and what does not. [Edited by Gerardo Fortuna, Sam Morgan]

Tomorrow gonna be exactly 20 years since NATO terrorist aggression on SR Yugoslavia, i.e. Serbia and Montenegro.  Seventy eight days, from 24. March to 10. June 1999., NATO criminals had bombed and attacked by land a sovereign  state, a member and the founder of UN, that had attacked not a single NATO country (article 5. of North Atlantic Treaty). All was done against international legislative, without any UN resolution, and without a formal declaration of war. All of that classify the attack as the terrorist act. This criminal aggression against Serbia and Montenegro was conducted by about 20 states in direct military aggression and as logistic support of terrorism on a single sovereign state.

Hereby and on this day, however, I won't write about evil! I'll write about honor and humanism ... This is what makes meaningful and valuable the Serbian fight against evil, lies, deception and inhumanity ...

This Regiment residing in the South of Serbia, nowadays under the attack of NATO and their servants Shqiptars (so called Albanians) was the most decorated Serbian military unit in the Great War. Just in three villages of Jablanica County - Gajtan, Retkocer and Jablanicka Stubla - 50 people were decorated with the highest Serb's decoration for bravery - Karadjordje's Star. From Balkan Wars (1912-1913) to the end of the Great War 1918, the Regiment had sustained loses of 67%, and 80% in officer ranks. In 1999., the descendants were worthy of the ancestors. [Photo: LimanGuerrilla]

YUGOSLAVIA - WHAT MIGHT BE IF IT WASN'T ...

ENGLISH EXPERT CLAIMS: Yugoslavia would be world power, and Belgrade - Europe's capital

By

Source

This analysis is more than 3 years old. The original post has vanished from its original http address where it was published as "How Yugoslavia was Syrianized 25 years ago". However, for us here, at the Balkans, this is always an interesting subjects. There is a saying that the historian is a reporter who wasn't present at the scene of the event. We were there when Yugoslavia collapsed. We could see it from the first row. We are witnesses how the "history" was been bent, twisted and altered to support certain doings and political stands. Hence, believe you me, there is no real history, one could rely on! Not tomorrow, not today, not ever! Talking history, we are talking fairy tales. For example, the historic "fact" of today is that Serbia attacked "Bosnia", and "Croatia", and they defended themselves from an evil aggressor. The fact is that Socialistic Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and S.R. Croatia were parts of the Federal State of Yugoslavia, a founder and a member of UN. In both federal units Serbs were constitutive nation, not minority! When Muslims and Croatians unilaterally declared the secession from Yugoslavia and started armed rebellion, Serbs as the third constitutive nation in B&H were against, and wanted to stay in Yugoslavia. The same scenario was in S.R Croatia. Serbs were erased from the constitution of that federal unit of Yugoslavia, declared as minority, and Croatians started armed rebellion. Serbs wanted to stay in Yugoslavia. Yugoslav Peoples Army, was multinational, of course. Some Muslim and Croatian officers and soldiers deserted, but a number of them stayed loyal to Yugoslavia. However, the real evil trick was that Western countries, and USA recognized secessionists as legitimate governments and  recognized B&H and Croatia as independent states during Yugoslav Army had tried to quenching the insurrection!? By this violation of international law Yugoslav Army, all of the sudden became an occupier on its own land, in its own state. The Army withdrew to those republics where nobody attacked them - Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. There are still officers of YPA Croatians and Muslims that live in Serbia, because they stayed faithful to their oath, and they can not go back to Croatia or B&H. After YPA withdrew, Serbs that stayed in their homes in B&H and Croatia had to organize and fight for themselves, being supported by Serbia, of course. That is, in very short, the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God! But who cares. In history for general public would stay written - Evil Serbs attacked peaceful Muslims and Croats and out of nothing slaughtered them, but they bravely defeated the aggressors and their independent states.
That's it. Now let's talk Butler. What might be, if it wasn't! A lot of us in so called "Region" are thinking abut that. All of us, except Slovenia, deteriorated. Even Croatia, who was awarded the whole Adriatic coast. Croats have never had before the Adriatic coast (nor defined borders, anyway, except in Yugoslavia, after 1918), and because Croats did not bring Adriatic coast in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians in 1918., (actually Slovenians and Croatians have not had their defined states nor state borders when they joined Kingdom of Serbia in one joint state. After Socialistic Yugoslavia had been destroyed, according to international law of succession, they could not inherit the whole coast!  So, being more than miserable, with Adriatic and without Adriatic, a lot of us is thinking sometimes about the subject of Butler's analysis. Particularly, seeing that what we suffer, as a scenario for other countries. Yugoslavia had to die. Our Slavic sisters Ukraine and Russia have to bleed... where is the end?
There are different opinions, but let us see, in short, what was Butler's projection.

YUGOSLAVIA– HEAVNELY BOARDERS

Here’s a grim article by one Phil Butler blaming everyone but the Yugoslavs for the collapse of Yugoslavia. Just awful.
Success? Really? I was there from 1981-84. To fund its comparative prosperity Yugoslavia had borrowed from the capitalist West to the hilt and then frittered the money away on shopping and vanity communist disaster projects. It collapsed because it had bankrupted itself economically and politically. By 1984 Yugoslavs were crossing into Warsaw Pact Hungary where the shopping was better.
I was UK Olympic Attache in Sarajevo in 1984. It was striking how the Belgrade communist elite did their best to ignore the Sarajevo games – no-one outside Sarajevo wanted Bosnia to enjoy a success. [There would be no Games in Sarajevo without the permission and support of commy elite in Belgrade, you simple ignorant!  Whole Yugoslavia stayed behind the Olimpics! Moreover, "Belgrade commy elite" had been vastly consisted on Slovenians and Croatians, there were at seldom a few Serbs and Muslims from Bosnia, there were Shqiptar Muslims, though. We common people compehend Bosnia and Herzegovina as a part of Yugoslavia and we did enjoy the Olympics, as success of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Yugoslavia. This Crawford's remark is British way malicious and simply not true - LG.]
The key failure in this piece is to ignore the stark reality – that Yugoslavia’s ‘socialism’ was stupid and corrupt. But it had one big bad consequence – when it collapsed there was no real national popular impetus towards market democracy as in eg Poland [This is not true! There were forces in all the republics that supported the change of course towards market democracy n Yugoslavia. The government of Ante Marković is a proof of that. However, the West and the secessionists in Slovenia, Croatia in a part of fundamentalist Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the West supported and funded, sabotaged this attempt. By the way, Poland took a step to market democracy by military coup for General Jaruzelsky, who for six years held a military dictatorship - LG]. Hence the dismal performance of all the post-Yugo smaller states for over 20 years now. [By Charles Crawford]

Can you imagine Europe where Yugoslavia is one of the key players?
I can. Yugoslavia was actually one of the biggest cultural and social experiments in the history.

It was formed and the border of Austro-Hungary monarchy and the Ottoman empire, Yugoslavia has connected the people from both cultural circles in a way that it was not seen since Alexander the Great.
Experiment lasted for more than half a century, and the idea was to create an unique state for all South Slavic nations. Although Yugoslavia was partially Britain and France's geo-strategic project with the goal to restrain Germany, it was basically a reasonable and legal idea.
Corfu declaration called for constitutional monarchy similar to the one in England, even though King Aleksandar suspended the constitution and the elections in one moment, this project still seemed promising. War, political machinations, internal and external pressure have collapsed over this world power in its rise as it usually happens in these experiments, authoritative government became necessary, and even desirable.
When national hero, dictator, and global "celebrity" Josip Broz Tito came to power, Yugoslavia emerged to the world's scene in all its glory. His role in founding of the Non-Aligned movement was both generous and extremely important, especially for the people of the Yugoslavia itself; besides, its foundations were laid in Belgrade 1961.
When we see the breakdown of Yugoslavia from this perspective, one can see the geo-strategic thinking of Washington and no one needs research institute to know why Bill Clinton waited 1995 to intervened in Bosnia. Clinton actually just continued the policy of destabilisation on Yugoslavian socialism, which was formed by his predecessor George Bush senior.
Now we know that the rebels, which were trained in secret by America, played the key role in fragmentation of the region with the organization known as the Atlantic brigade consisted of around 400 fighters, which fought on Kosovo, side by side with Kosovo Liberation Army.
The story of a French men that trained the members of the Atlantic brigade reminds of what has happened in Ukraine, Libya and Syria in the past few years. One could see the patters that lead us to the truth: horrible fields of death in legitimate state Yugoslavia, investors plunder what has left, stains on the hands of American presidents, British lords and Neo-Nazi German industrialists.
Yugoslavia became a pattern for Afghanistan, Iraq, Arab spring and Ukraine. The story about genocide in the name of democracy is too disgusting to talk about it. Majority of people in these nations were set back 200 years, in the type of medieval existence without hope. The only today former Yugoslavs see in, naturally, EU and NATO.
In the Kosovo conflict, both sides committed crimes of course, as well in other Yugoslavian wars. That is not the point of what I am talking about, but the totality of the disaster.
Primarily, the peoples of former Yugoslavia do not have their own voice anymore. Secondly, the downfall of the nation lead to the death and persecution of millions of people. That is the other story. My "fantasy" about Yugoslavia should enlighten.

Foto: cesi.fpn.unsa.ba
Yugoslavia was build on the idea that South Slavs should stop being weak and divided. The united nation of Yugoslavia was not an easy target of imperialistic intentions that we see today.
The fact is that after the World War II, socialistic Yugoslavia became European story about success.
Between 1960 and 1980 that country experienced perhaps the most lively economical and social growth in the world: decent living standards, free health care and education, guarantied right for work, paid one month vacation, literacy rate over 90% and expected lifetime of 72 years.
As much as i know, non of the newly formed Balkan countries can boast with half of that prosperity. It was a progress that made West interest groups want to destroy Yugoslavia.
All of the Yugoslav peoples also enjoyed free apartments, accessible public transportation and utilities. Non profit companies were also in the public hands, which did not suit well with Western democracy.
That country was not allowed to compete with Germany, France, and especially not with Britain, and London and Luxembourg bankers could not pull out billions from the socialistic system.

Yugoslavia had to die.
Michael Parenti - awarded author and political scientist, hosting professor of Institute for studies on politics in Washington - described what was America's goal with Yugoslavia: to convert the Yugoslavian space in the Third world region that will not be able to continue to develop on its own, in the area with broken economy, with natural resources that are entirely open to multinational corporations (Kosovo is especially rich in minerals).
Also, the goal was to convert Yugoslavia into a space where poor but well educated and trained people live who will have to work for small wages and that will lead to the drop of salaries in Western Europe.
And one more thing: the goal was to breakdown oil, engineering, mining, automobile and fertilizer industry, and many more light industries, so they could not compete with already existent western manufacturers.
On the Balkans, West has made Serbs look like demons, in Libya Colonel Gaddafi, in Syria Asad, and the pattern goes to Vladimir Putin, as the greatest trophy yet. That is the world we live in. With the strength of tranquilized American citizens who are drugged with stupidity of worthless thing and huge houses of super-capitalism: the world is taken over by tyrants.
But what would have happened if the Yugoslavia survived? What if that big ethnic and social experiment survived? Surely the World would be entirely different place today.
First of all, because of the Non-Aligned Movement presence, European union would be much weaker and much less influential in the world. The whole Europe would come to Belgrade, and from there to all six republics that are now fighting over Brussels' crumbs.
In 1991 Yugoslavia was 24th in the world considering GDP. Bosnia and Herzegovina is 112th today and the situation is getting worse. Croatia is 76th although "Blumberg" recently put them on the list of World's 10 worst. Macedonia is 130th, Montenegro 149th, Slovenia 81st, Serbia 87th, and it seems to be more stable than all the rest.
From the personal perspective, I remember the prosperity moment of former Yugoslavia, winter Olympic games in Sarajevo in 1984. Those were the first winter games held in some communist country, and the torch went from Dubrovnik, over Split, Ljubljana, Zagreb and many other Yugoslavian cities, until it reached Sarajevo.
I do not remember the names of the gold medal winners, but i remember the mascot Vucko, the work of Slovenian painter Joze Trobec, which has carved into my memory for some reason. That little wolf presented the Balkan people. Wolfs play important part in Yugoslavian fairy tales, they are the embodiment of courage and symbol of winter.

I am not thinking about what would have happened if that brave and strong people of Yugoslavia have won it all, but others mixed their fingers in their fate. Now, that nation is gone, forever".[Originally published on the site "Modern Diplomacy"]

TAKE COVER! PENTAGON'S GMO INSECT SOLDIERS ARE COMING!

The Pentagon Wants to Make an Army of Virus-Spreading Insects. Scientists Are Concerned.

Genetically Modified Crops were placed in the market in mid 90’s. Since then, GMO crops have reached almost 200 million hectares or about 12% of total field crops growing area. Without an ambition to analyze the GMO phenomenon here, in a sentence is could be stated that after GMO came to the stage, nothing had ever been the same.
The Stone age of transgenic technology was finished somewhere at the end of the first decade of this Century. The game changer in genome editing appeared to be a method called CRISPR-Cas which enable the more sophisticated gene manipulation, by far, and gives the ability to introduce a particular induced mutation throughout the whole genome of an organism. Moreover, the effect of the genome change could be visible in one generation, and no crosses and/or the next generation of progenies is required. The process in reverse direction is possible, as well, that put a cherry on the top of this. The changes in technology are of that scale that put a question of GMO definition validity. Not to mention that CRISPER opens the road and speed up the further evolution of genome editing laboratory techniques.
Though, CRISPR needs to be polished some more, it is improving by day, giving a whole new world of opportunities as a powerful biological scissors, for more precise genetic surgery.
However, the attractiveness of new genome editing technologies is not promising benefits for medicine, or agriculture, mostly. A “Military Intelligence”, as it seems, has found an angle, as well. An angle that could give you the shivers.

Insect Allies winged soldiers armed with GMO viruses. Are they meant to be crop protectors, food security guardians, or wishers attackers on all that grows and moves in next generation biological warfare?

SERBIAN-WESTERN RELATIONS: THE WEST MAY CHANGE ITS APPEARANCE, BUT NEVER ITS MIND

It's time to end Serb-bashing!

By

It has been almost 20 years since the terrorist aggression, and then occupation a part of the territory of the Republic of Serbia was separated by the NATO force, and control was given over to the terrorists and various criminals from the KLA. The rebellious Shqiptar's national minority was honored with a puppet quasi-state creation as a gift from the West. For now. Although all the actions that the West has conducted on the former Yugoslavia territory, since the secession of Slovenia, via secessions of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, until the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, were violations of all the rules and regulations of International law, the very same West blamed the Serbs for everything. This attitude of satanisation of Serbs, the West holds even today. The example that nothing has been changed is shown by this Neil Clark’s article, published in the Guardian, on the Serbian Orthodox New Year 2008!
It is very important for Serbs to comprehend and accept the continuity of this policy of satanisation and blaming the Serbs by the West for everything that had happened during 1990s, before and after that. For the West, "only a dead Serb, is a good Serb" and "every Serbia is Great Serbia, i.e. oversized." Therefore, there is no "negotiation" nor "discussion" about "resolving the problem of Kosovo" and "normalizing the relations between Belgrade and Priština".
Kosovo and Metohija should be declared Occupied Territories by the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. All rebels in the ranks of the Shqiptar’s national minority are to be outlawed, and the NATO occupier should be called upon to respect the Geneva Convention on the Behavior and Obligations of the Occupiers in Occupied Territories, which will be controlled by the Free World through a Standing Committee formed by BRIC countries , under the authorization of the UN, up to the end of occupation.
Any continuation of talks with the NATO occupier, those to whom international law serves as a doormat and rebellious Shqiptar’s national minority, on some sort of territory "division", particularly, rewarding the insurgents and aggressors even one foot of the Serbian land is the overthrow of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, the spit on all victims, holly Kosmet defenders in 1999, on the sacrifice of our ancestors, The Serbian Royal Army from 1912 to 1918, the vow of the Emperor Milica and the candles left to be lighted by the Avengers of Kosovo, which she left in the Visoki Dechani Monastery. 600 years ago. It's a national treachery. High treason! The name of the traitor shall remain forever recorded in the historical memory of the Serbs, while the single one exists on the Earth. He'll be cursed for eternity. [LG]

Has anyone in Serbia seriously analyzed so-called “The German-German Treaty” signed on December 21, 1972, that our current politicians, headed by Vučić, speaking of with awe? Has anyone ever wondered why and for what reason Serbia, in fall 2007, rejected this interstate agreement as a model for resolving the issue of Kosovo and Metohija?

THE UNITED EUROPE THIRD REICH MEMBERSHIP CARD IS VALID FOR THE EU OF TODAY

They've had a dream! From Napoleon, via Hitler to the Present day. The Third Reich didn't manage to establish The United Europe for longer than 1939 - 1945. The United Europe they led to conquer Russia. Wild hordes of the UE reached the doorway of Moscow, passing through Ukraine. Serbs were not in that Horde. We didn't want to. However, apple polishing Croatians were there. They kissed Serb's arse in 1918., but in 1941 it was the "Danke Deutchland" time, like in 1991.
The EU appeared to be not different from UE. The Fourth Reich had gathered its former allies. Unlike the British and the French, the Germans did not forget their allies from the wars of the 20th century. Especially from the Second World War. They are all in the EU, now! Croatia and Bulgaria and Hungary and Romania. Only Muslims from Bosnia and Albania are missing, but this is another story.
Just compare the UE from 1941, and EU of today, and the similarities are striking. Britain is "isolated island", again. EU is fighting Russians in Ukraine, advancing toward Moscow. All Serbian neighbors are in EU - Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia. Bosnia and Herzegovina are a Protectorate (like before the Great War). Great Albania is under reconstruction like in WWII. Muslims are pets of the West used to pacify Serbs.
The path of Croatia toward EU began in 1941. Let's see how ...

They are simply irresistible!  First they do all what they can to saw seeds of evil, religious and ethnic hatred,  use double standards, rivers of blood and than they come with their "advice" how to live together, cooperate and "bust" our economy using "private investments" which is an euphemism for the liberal economy slavery. The bias World Bank recognizes "Kosovo" as a "state", although this "state" is not a member of UN, and has been established by Shqiptar national minority in Serbia by armed rebellion and terrorist illegal NATO aggression on Serbia. This sides WB with NATO terrorists (except NATO member Greece who bravely refused to participate in this aggression).
